Tomek Jankowski—who was raised in a Polish family in Buffalo, New York—worked, studied, and traveled in Poland, Hungary, and other regions of Eastern Europe from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, gaining a working literacy of several languages in the process. He holds a BA in history (minor in anthropology) from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and an MA in applied economics from Southern New Hampshire University. Currently he is a director of research at a research firm that specializes in producing market analysis for the professional services world, where his research occasionally touches on Eastern Europe and emerging markets regions. Married to a native Pole, he lives in Pembroke, New Hampshire, and still occasionally visits Eastern Europe.
